Yes, I’m mixed!

I’m an American journalist who works in lifestyle tv as an on-air personality, I’m also a recently self-published children’s book author. I refuse to talk about myself in the third person because I don’t have a pretend team of people helping me run this site…it’s just me! As a mixed girl born and raised in Orange County California, I was reminded every day how different I was from other girls. All my friends had beautiful, silky, wavy, or curly hair, while mine always looked dry and frizzy. I grew up struggling to style my hair and it wasn’t until I became an adult that I learned how to better love my natural pattern. The products I had access to when I was younger, weren’t meant for my hair texture or thickness, so they didn’t work for me. Years later when multicultural hair products were created and distributed, I learned how to better care for my mixed hair. Now, I love my hair and the many styles I’m able to wear. My book, “The Perfect Mix” follows the story of a little girl who struggles with her cultural identity because of her mixed heritage. I was that little girl. I want anyone who reads this book to have comfort in knowing that they aren’t alone in their hair journey. My hope for readers who can’t relate to this book on a personal level is that they’ll better understand people who are struggling to embrace their identities and become a part of the solution that will ultimately encourage others during their journey to self acceptance and celebration.
